Hi group:

This question is regarding the horsepower rating of the Walter engine(s).  The published take-off horsepower rating for the 601E is 751 shaft horsepower (SHP).  This can be found at the water web site www.walterengines.com . My understanding of turboprop engines is that they generate their power primarily in the form of torque applied to the propeller.  This is referred to shaft horse power (SHP).  In addition to this, power is generated by the jet exhaust from those bent pipes near the front (which is really the back) of our engines.  These two ratings are added together and referred to as "equivalent shaft horsepower" (ESHP).  This can be seen in the Pratt & Whitney web site in reference to the PT6 engines which are rated "580 to 920 ... ESHP" or equivalent shaft horsepower www.pwc.ca .  My question:  Are the horsepower ratings for the Walter engines "SHP" or "ESHP"?

regards,
