Larry,

"They've done a fine job attempting to provide beautiful products."

I agree with you completely.

"In regards to the "hold Lancair accountable" motivation.  Drop it!"

I don't know whether someone at Oildyne had a bad day and installed 10
spool valves incorrectly or whether the number is 100 or 1000, do you?
If you are comfortable living with the possibility of someone's
negligence (other than yours), buried deep within the bowels of your
plane, so be it. I am not comfortable doing that and so will make sure
the power pack works correctly, even if it's on my nickle.

My point is simply this...if my spool valve is installed backwards, I
did not do it and in all likelihood, Lancair did not do it. The odds are
pretty high that it was done at Oildyne.

At the very least, Lancair and Oildyne should cook up a proceedure in
the form of a service bulletin so that a pump can be tested in the field
and returned to Oildyne for repair if necessary and someone other than
the builder should eat the $125 cost.

Now, let's wait patiently for Mark at Lancair to inform LML of their
position on this issue. The goodwill to be generated here would not be
insignificant.
