I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work, except for the following --
consider how you would add the BID which connects this post to the wing spar.
I found it relatively easy to run BID between two flat surfaces (e.g. across a
corner) but I think it would be more difficult to get a good layup around a
circular post.
Why not take the rod and make it flat on four sides by holding it on a belt
sander? Although, making a five piece lamination took me less than an hour
for the pair.
See the latest Lancair Network News for an interesting tip on how to clamp the
post in place. The manual says to use a C-clamp. They must have an unusually
shaped one -- I couldn't get any of my clamps to fit.
