Dale Scholz' mention of double roll pinning the strut flange and shaft
is not an uncommon approach to solving recurring shearing or more
commonly, the crushing of a roll pin in a high stress area.
On hydraulic jackhammers produced by Stanley Hydraulics, there is
even a special roll pin available that is comprised of a "coil" style
roll pin. They spec this special pin when jackhammer users find they
repeatedly need to replace the standard pin. F.Y.I., Those of you w/
interest should also be aware that a standard roll pin can also be
crushed in hi-cycle heavy load conditions often found in the
construction industry. Where these loads are anticipated, we remove
and inspect the pins on a regular basis. We find the coil style pins to
have a far lesser incidence of failure than even the double pin method.
I can get a part # from Stanley if you can't find them in the McMaster
Carr catalogue. Regards to all..... Jeffrey B. Chipetine
