I am happy with the Infinity grips in my L IV-P and 140 hours. I love the grips but I did a couple of things different. First, I cut 2 inches off the stick tubing to lower the grip. Then I mounted the grips with about a 5* toe in on each side. That put my wrist straight when I gripped the grip. Secondly, the speed brake switch, right of the coolie hat, has a down and up position and it angles back and toward the airplane centerline. This makes it very easy to bump. A friend of mine bumped it while opening a map at night and couldn't figure out why the plane was shaking. At night you can't look out at the wing speed brakes and see them. So by turning the grips 5* toe in that switch is about straight reward. The right side grip has the speed brake switch disabled so you don't have the position conflict with the left side and the right pilot doesn't need it since there is someone always in the left seat.
The coolie hat is Pitch trim and RUDDER trim because you do more rudder trimming than anything in the IV P. The Aileron trim is on the left side of the coolie and is spring centered and moves left and right. PTT is the trigger and the Thumb button is for the TruTrak autopilot Disconnect (momentary) and Control Stick Steering and ENGAGE (when held down for 1 second). The pinkie button is my MUTE for the SFS voice warnings, which you use a lot more than you think. If you have no voice warnings then the Flip flop would be good.
After 140 hours I wouldn't change anything, however, I have reversed the Rudder and Aileron trim several times while under heavy workload. Also, with right front seat passengers getting in and out the left side I find that they bump the speed brake switch to the up position sometimes and I hate what this causes. It seems the Precise Flight Speed brakes don't like to stay up at voltages under 12.4 V and when you turn on the master and the SB switch is up, the SB's go up and then Slam Down (they won't stay up on battery voltage) causing you passengers to think someone just shot at you, not good and scares me too. With the engine running they work fine but not on the battery voltage. Note; they know my opinion already and say it is normal.
Happy to clarify any of the above if needed,
Jim Hergert
