There are several reasons why I would like to have someone else do the test flying on the proposed ES that started this "debate".  I run a builder assist shop.  Have been doing so since 1993 and specialize in Lancair's.  I know the building of these airplanes nearly inside and out and learn more every day.  I am grateful for LML as I  learn  by owners/builders like yourself as I listen to what problems you are experiencing and then try to solve them.  I also learn from my clients as to what they want in their custom aircraft and try my best to deliver them their ideal airplane.  I run my business abiding by a few simple golden rules.  No structural changes, safety first, and if I don't know the answer, I find someone who does.  You would be amazed how much of my day is spent obtaining info regarding additions or new developments.  My clients are not well served with the attitude that I know everything.  You can never have too many eyes on any given project.  I fall into the "low range pilot" with 250 in my 360 and 100 in an ES, 500 total time VFR pilot.  However the majority of my clients are retired commercial pilots with an impressive military experience background.  They usually perform their own test flights but not without extensive ground work with me.   After the owner is satisfied that the aircraft is safe, I am usually checked out in said aircraft then it's my turn to see what improvements I can make.   However the ES Owner who is considering hiring David Allen does not have the comfort level in his flying abilities to get the numbers he needs.  Nor do I.

The moral of this story is that there are old pilots.  There are bold pilots.  But there are no old bold pilots.
