I seemed to remember a comment in the Lancair Newsletter, 4th qtr. 1996, about an electronic ignition system from Klause Savier, (no I don't have that good of a memory but I just got a stack of newsletters and read it last night).  In it on page 4, Robert Hanney Lancair 360 got to 23,000' on a hot day at 1750 pounds and credits Klause's system for part of that.  He also states that the only system to use is one which changes the timing from 0 degrees to 42 degrees and he claims that type of adjustment is the only type which makes sense.  And that "an electronic timing system ... with no timing change provision isn't worth the trouble" and further that "transistor systems aren't worth the trouble".

By the way, Klause is a very interesting guy.  I got to stay in the same house with him at Oshkosh this year.  He has the worlds fastest Varieasy and is now building a Longeasy (or maybe I have that reversed).  An article was written about a year or so ago about it in Sport Aviation I think.  He designed his own foils on the canard and he built his own props, too.  And it not just marginally faster but BUNCHES faster.  I'd lie if I tried to give you the details but he DOES know his stuff.  Just DON'T ask him about the John Denver crash!!!!
