Re the compass postings of late: I put an
S.I.R.S. compass, panel-mounted, in my ES. Not happy with it.
Can't compensate it -- on some headings it's still 13 degrees off despite
pegged compensating screws. Also, the angle of the viewing window is
poor -- unless the compass is right at the very top of your panel, you kinda
have to crane your neck down to read it.
'Bout ready to toss it in the trash bin and put
in something different.

Hi Jim,
Sorry that you're having so much trouble with
your compass. Mine is within 1 degree on all headings and is easy to read
(yep, I put it at the top of the panel). My guess is that if you're getting 13
degrees error with pegged out compensating screws that it ain't the compass,
it's the environment (magnetic fields). You'd likely have the same or worse
error with any other compass. Where are you located? Maybe we could swap
compasses temporarily and see if the error stays with the compass or with the
airplane.
