If the power goes, the batteries take over (the GPS lets you know when this is happening, as power is cut, it will prompt you on the screen that it is automatically shutting down until a key is pressed...just press a key and keep flying. I like this feature also because I do not have to manually shut it down when I shut down the plane, it automatically shuts down in 30 seconds after power is cut). Although you won't get 8 or 9 hours from it, you'll get about 4 and you'd better be able to get where you need to be within 4 hours after electrical failure :).
