As you know, it's been that long since a engine failure after a "kickback" on engine start that put broken pieces into internal gears on start of descent into Spruce Creek last January. Sure takes awhile for Continental to make a crankshaft !! The engine has been ready to fly for well over a week. I would take it out and run it up and get ready. Only to find an oil leak. Bummer!! Took off oil cooler, and it turned out to be a bad fitting on the Turbo wastegate oil supply line. We also have been plagued with monsoon weather which would keep us from flying. But today was the day. Normal run-up -take off-climb out and temperatures pressures were all in the Green. The take off RPM was low and I made in notes so that we could adjust that on landing. Air conditioning kept us in total comfort. New Bose headsets and the new Ryan TCAD kept us out of harms way. Life's sweet!! The new and improved MTV 14D (4 blade) Scimitar prop was 4-8 KTS better at 10,500 ft., but this is not a fair test because I was running 100deg rich of peak for the engine break-in procedure. It sure is an awesome prop. Would have been a perfect flight except-- a broken cover on the prop governor showed up on inspection after landing. It'll take a few days --- but this is an easy one to fix!! Can you believe the part is plastic??!! I'll report as tests continue. Charlie Kohler
