The compulsory nose gear retrofit referred to in SB#9 of 2/15/88 was another crutch to make the original rubber donut nose gear tolerable.  It diddled the Belleville washers and I believe swapped aluminum casings.
The 1K retrofit is a replacement of the whole nose gear assembly with an oleo strut like the 320 uses but not interchangable with the 320.
 
 Suggest you contact William Bartlett (wtbart@olympus.net) before using the old rubber donut nose gear even with Lancair's free fixes.  He has made it work longer than anyone else I know of.  Most of us with 235s paid the 1k for the oleo strut which really does kill the problems.
