Hamid is correct about technology. He has been there and done that. There is no such thing as a free lunch in aviation.  95% is not good enough. 99.99% is not good enough either. If 99.99% were good enough we would have a major airline disaster every day. Avionics have to work all the time. They have to be reliable, accurate, fail safe, etc.  A friend of mine died because of an avionics failure. So if you want ot be a guinea pig and fly IFR with your $250 EFIS then go right ahead-- no one is stopping you. I just don't think it is a good idea to get too far out on the limb. Jeff Edwards
