Answer,

More thrust or power on takeoff and climb.  Probable higher speed in cruise,
probable decreased fuel consumption due to efficiency.  The  propeller will
operate at optimum efficiency in either circumstance as the engine is
operating at a constant power setting and constant RPM changing pitch as
required.

A fixed pitch prop cannot be efficient in all areas. If you go for optimum
speed, you lose acceleration and power for takeoff. ie racing propellers. If
you go for thrust and performance for climb and takeoff you sacrifice speed.

These birds do best with a constant speed prop.  We need the thrust, power
with lower pitch prop setting,to get of the ground with our small wing area,
high wing loading and a higher pitch setting to take advantage of the clean
aerodynamic configeration of these wonderful birds and get our top speed
which just happens to be our bragging rights we all tout.
