Gary,
Wow! I didn't realize people were paying so much. I assume (I know don't
assume) the biggest cost issue is flight time. Avemco uses some combination
of complex, PIC, and time in type, etc to figure your "experience". I had
about 3000 hr. total time (2200 PIC) most in complex aircraft. Flight time
however is not always a good indicator of experience (including insurance
rates of skill). B-52 time vs Fighter time have a wide range of meaning
depending on who you're talking to.
My rate break down was:
$432 Bodily Injury @ 100,000/1,000,000/1,000,000
$1333 In Flight @$70,000/$300/$300
with the following endorsements: TX0001, 102701, 120201, 103701, 127101
This was quoted at a $1000 deductible. $500 (or thereabouts) of the
deductible is covered by the EAA.
I always ask Avemco what flight milestone will attain the next price break.
They now say I'm getting the lowest rate. Their combination formula totals
in excess of 5000 (pts I guess) for my background.
Two other known discounts that I believe I'm getting are the 3 tech
counselor visits (10%) and the flight advisor program (10%). These
obviously don't add up to our differences however.
As a reminder to others, the 10% discount for tech counselor visits is good
for the life of the airframe if I recall correctly. For me this was an
additional future sale carrot albeit small.
Finally, I am aware that rates were recently increased (about 14%). I was
told that since they had already sent me my bill I'd be spared the
increase till next year. Goody :)
