There are pros and cons to the debate about an insurance association.  If there is a group formed, I would like to take the opportunity to have Lancair-specific training.  Definitely at first as I get used to the airplane, and maybe every two years to take the place of a BFR.  That is the value of the association to me -- the training program.  I suppose the training can be obtained elsewhere, but an association might make that easier to find.

Concerning insurance, I'll get a quote from the association, and also a quote from the other guys, and pick the cheapest.

Brent -- do you really put $10K per year into an investment account?  I mean, it's a great idea in theory, but do you really write out that check?  Also, you've said that when the propeller stops turning in flight, the insurance company just bought the airplane and your job is to survive the crash.  Sounded like a pretty good story to me.  But the picture changes somewhat if you're uninsured.  The survivable crash costs you the full value of the airplane but the nice airport "almost within reach" will save you a quarter of a million dollars if you can get there....
