>>>There is an error in Chapter 8 page 8-29 showing the assembly of the aileron pushrod ends. Hopefully it was nothing but a typo, but a dangerous one. This page shows using AN470A4-24 rivets.  WRONG ! The correct rivet is an AN470AD4-4.<<<

Ted,
I didn't catch this one, but did check that I'd used the correct rivets--as supplied in the kit for this assembly. I write to advise you that you will find numerous small errors in the building manuals. They are very good overall--by any standard, but are not perfect. In many cases, errors were induced because changes in parts, techniques and assemby methods have been made over time, and not all the associated/linked things corrected in the manuals. The Lancair is so compact that almost every part has to consider the related components around it, not just the things it directly connects to. For example, several years ago Lancair changed the aileron torque tubes that hold the control sticks so the aileron crossover link extends down from the torque tubes. (The original design had the crossover tube mounted on tabs that extend upward from the torque tubes) The change significantly improved space behind the instrument panel and solved other problems, but if you install the aileron torque tubes exactly per the manual, the crossover tube will hit the nose gear well. The fix is easy--move the forward aileron torque tube mounts up about an inch, but if you don't "think ahead of your work" you'll have to redo this area.

I'd like to reemphasize that I found the building manuals very complete and helpful. It also helps to recognize that we're not building airplanes from a tinkertoy set of standard parts!

Good Luck!
