Before you substitute your wishful intuition for the accumulated knowledge of engineers, manufacturers, technicians and experienced mechanics, and label the result as "thinking", you might actually consider:

(a) the differential expansion rates between aluminum and steel, (b) the potential effect of trying to start an engine having insufficient main bearing clearance, (c) the potential effect of running for 30 seconds of more with no oil being supplied to the crankshaft bearings, and therefore, to splash-lube the cylinders, cam lobes and followers,                       (d) the potential effect that jamming a piston ring with zero-end gap into the top of the cylinder several hundred times might have on the choke and the ring-cylinder interface surfaces,
(e) the self-limiting characteristics you ascribe to vapor pressure are more likely applicable to updraft, carbureted applications. I have seen people successfully start injected engines well below 20 deg. F. Consider, too, reading the literature made available from Lyc and TCM on the subject. Also, as another correspondent just suggested, you might consider reading Schwaner's SKY RANCH ENGINEERING MANUAL, specifically pages 135-140 re cold starts. Jack Kane
