Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed X-Mailing-List: lancair.list@olsusa.com Reply-To: lancair.list@olsusa.com <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> << Lancair Builders' Mail List >> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> Posted for Ietc1@aol.com: I also had a serious shimmy problem which would only present itself on occasion. I also tried all the techniques in trouble shooting the problem to no avail. After inspecting the crossover bar just above the nose gear I noticed it was starting to crack at the weldments. I removed the engine and had the motor mount rewelded with gussets in place for added strength. (I would definitely do this again). I thought this was the cause of the problem not the effect. So I reinstalled the nose gear as is. About 20 hrs later after a landing (a soft one I remember well) the nose gear lost all its fluid. This is an awful feeling since you know how close the prop is to ground at that point. One of the bolts on the front of the strut had actually sheared. Once the strut was rebuilt it has worked trouble free since.
