When I flew off carriers we had an A-6 in my squadron lost the whole canopy. The pilot who happened to have his arm too close to the left side got a pretty nasty flail injury when the slipstream tried to wrap his elbow around the tailhook. If you think 125 KIAS is not too fast for the human body take a look at the A-6 Bombardier/ navigator who got partially ejected from his airplane and ended up sitting half in and half out of the aircraft flailing all over the place-- even during the arrested landing. In my experience in a Bonanza, losing a side window in flight was a traumatic non-event. Traumatic from the standpoint of noise, losing stuff out the opening (charts, plates, etc. ) Non event from the standpoint of no handling difficulties. It was quite disturbing to lower the gear and see daylight through the top of the wing from where the window hit the wing and perforated the wing and flap like a shotgun blast.....Jeff Edwards >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://members.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please remember that purchases from the Builders' Bookstore assist with the management of the LML.
