Mine is similar to Ben Welch's with the exception of mine not having the belly scoop. The first plane to fly without the scoop is Joe Bartels out of New Orleans. This engine driven unit weighs about 45 lbs. total and is very balanced with the units in the tail and rear cabin Vs the engine pump. Mike is also now selling an all electric unit that still hasn't flown but has sold several to Turbine builders. The electric power unit I saw was very small and weighed about 12 lbs. with a 2HP motor, however, when the other units are added I think it will be a little heaver than the engine driven system. I think they will all be 24/28 volt systems and be very expensive. I also think Flybymike has a sales agreement through Lancair. Check with him; flybymike@empnet.com My opinion is that the engine unit is better balanced and cheaper then the electric and I'm a 12 volt system. I also don't see the need for the scoop, since when your on the ground in hot weather the ram air from the propeller is not giving the scoop as much air as a fan, and when your at altitude where you don't need AC the scoop is still creating drag. Mike's system has a large fan on the condenser that blows the hot air out the bottom of the fuselage and the ambient air comes in the tail NACA scoop, should result in no drag penalty.
