Hi Steve,

You did not say what kind of a dampener you have, or what kind of prop.

I have been wondering about balancing with a dampener installed.  I have a
Mark Landoll harmonic balancer which has a movable ring inside, suspended in
silicone oil.  Total weight 12 lbs.

Since the balancer moves internally to find its own balance,  can the engine
be further balanced by adding weights?   My first guess would be that all you could do is measure the vibration, and
it
would be useless to try to improve the balance by adding weight.

I would appreciate hearing any other thoughts on this subject.

I have a 3 blade wood prop which is pretty light, so the 12 lb balancer
really
made a noticible improvement, allowing the engine to idle smoothly below
about 1000 rpm which it wouldn't do before.
