Some places accept aircraft, some don't. >Oh, and how much does it cost generally for a Lycoming >IO-320 to be overhauled? Between $3,000 and $15,000. 1) Vincennes(sp) University in Vincennes, IN will take the airplane and put in a rebuilt engine for the cost of the parts. It will take about 2 months and cost about $3,000. I had an O-540 rebuilt there for $3,000, 20 years ago. The engine failed because of a missing bolt after 10 hours but I don't think this happens to everyone. They were very nice about it and paid for the next engine and installation. 2) The Lycoming factory will take in the engine and rebuild it or make it factory new, your choice. Your mechanic can remove the engine and ship it to Lycoming and reinstall the engine. Ask your mechanic what his charges are and call Lycoming for their costs. 3) Pick up a Trade-A-Plane from Crossville, TN. You will find probably 20 engine rebuilders in the paper along with their prices. Again, asked your mechanic and the rebuilders what the installation costs are. -- Lorn H.
