Jim -

I recently worked on a Cirrus SR22 with a similar problem. I understand
Cirrus will be issuing a service bulletin to correct the problem. What I
found were at least two things that may cause your problem.

1. The nose wheel fairing attachement was loose which allowed the fairing to
wobble a little bit. The wobble was noticed by grasping the aft end of the
fairing and trying to wiggle it in any direction. In this case the fairing
moved up and down.

2. The nose wheel is attached to the nose gear fork by a long through bolt
and nut. The nut was loose which allowed the nose wheel to wobble a bit. To
inspect for this problem correctly one must have the nose wheel off the
ground. The nut should be just tight enough to remove the wobble, too tight
and you'll have excessive bearing preload and destroy the bearings. Going
from memory ..... torque the nut to about 100 inch/pounds while rotating the
wheel, back off the nut to near zero, then retorque to about 30 inch/pounds.
Obviously ensure that the nut is properly safetied.

Althought it's probably not applicable you could also check the nose strut
where it attaches to the airframe.

Let me know if this helps.
