I changed to the super, at a significant cost for the engine mount exchange, for the following two reasons... Better climb rate. Ever flown in the clouds with ice being a real proposition? I've "heard" of this. (Need to be careful as to what one admits to on this forum.) No plane has ever flown too fast. So the extra knots are always welcome. There is at least one standard ES flying. Also the greatest benefit of the standard ES is a well balanced airplane. The ES was designed to take the IO360 and has a good weight distribution. The super is very nose heavy (as it doesn't have the retractable gear mechanism of the IV/P) and I think the empty weight is even more than advertised if one places ballast in the tail to get the CG to a more comfortable location.
