By far the best sanding guide coat I have found
is a touch-up paint called Short Cuts, available
from K mart in a 1 oz. bottle for $1.29 .  The
color you want is GLOW ORANGE, you will know it
when you see it.

I hear ya, "How much can you cover with 1 oz."  A
lot actually, but first dump the contents into a
empty paint can and mix with about 20oz. of
lacquer thinner.  Use some of the thinner to
rinse out the paint bottle. Shake it up before
each use and brush (not spray) a thin coat on the
surface to be sanded.

It dries quickly to a thin film that sands easily
wet or dry, will not clog the paper, and shows
defects and low spots painfully well. After
sanding excess color can be dissolved with fresh
lacquer thinner on a stiff brush and blotted up
on a paper towel.

Try it, you'll like it, besides how many
experiments can you do these days for a
bucktwentynine.
