I asked him to bring his hood for some partial panel work. He had no hood but brought his foggles. I tried the foggles for a while and found them not very challenging, then gave them to my passenger to try. After a few minutes I distracted him and pulled the breaker on the turn coordinator. He flew on making climbs, descents and turns to a heading as instructed. Finally I couldn't take it any longer and asked for a standard rate turn after which he detected the failure of his only gyro. I recommended that he stay out of IMC, get a new instructor and trash the foggles.
