I just found this on the upsat.com website
SL30 Service Bulletin  A Mandatory Service Bulletin has been issued temporarily suspending the use
of the VOR receiver of the Apollo SL-30. The receiver sensitivity is such
that VOR transmitters which are not transmitting at the established
frequency may not be correctly interpreted by the SL-30. This can cause the
unit, in very rare cases, to provide incorrect bearing information.
Immediately upon discovering the problem UPS Aviation Technologies notified
the FAA and issued a service bulleting requiring that the SL-30 not be used
for en-route navigation until the problem has been corrected.

The Glideslope, Localizer, and Comm radio functions of the SL-30 are not
affected by the service bulletin and remain fully functional. No change in
the use of Glideslope, Localizer, or Comm radio is required.

UPS Aviation Technologies is implementing a change to the software which
will allow the VOR receiver to correctly interpret these signals. The
software change is expected to be completed and available by mid July 2001.
We intend to provide the necessary tools to our dealers so that the required
modification can be installed locally. The Mandatory Service Bulletin is available in its entirety here

SL-30 Q and A

Q1: How does the Mandatory Service Bulletin affect my use of the SL-30?

A1: The SL-30 can not be used for VOR navigation until the unit modification
has been approved and installed. The Glideslope, Localizer, and Comm radio
are not affected in any way by the Mandatory Service Bulletin.

Q2: How does this Mandatory Service Bulletin affect the Glideslope,
Localizer and Comm functions of the SL-30?

A2: It Doesn't! The Glideslope, Localizer and Comm Radio functions are not
affected. The SL-30 can be used for ILS approaches, if so approved in the
aircraft, and the Comm radio remains fully functional.

Q3: How long will it be until this limitation is removed? A3: UPS Aviation Technologies is working hard to have the necessary changes
approved and made available by mid July 2001.

Q4: What will be required to return my SL-30 to full service?

A4: Our intention is to provide the necessary tools for any Apollo dealer to
install the new software and return the unit to full operation. The service
operation should require minimum time at the shop.

Q5: Will this service be fully covered under warranty?

A5: Yes, UPS Aviation Technologies will correct this problem and provide new
SW at no charge to all SL-30 owners. Q6: Until the modification is completed, can I navigate to a VOR in some
way?

A6: Yes, GPS and Loran owners will simply select the VOR waypoint as they
normally would any other waypoint and navigate as directed by the GPS or
Loran navigator.
