You ask about switching to Michelin or FCII--and you also ask about dimensions. Yes, on my early IV there was a big problem with dimensions. McCreary tires cycled through the opening and past the Gear Door---barely. We had to tweak the openings quite a bit to give us a safety margin. We determined that air pressure over 55 psi would reduce the safety margin for clearance, so this is a checklist item now. Personally, if I consistently got 35 landings per tire, I would not want to go through evaluating clearance criteria on other brands which may have a different profile. Getting a tire stuck coming out of a wheel well would make for a bad day. If it ain't broke, don't mess with it. You might go through a lot fooling around, only to find that the new brand of tires didn't fit, or didn't give you more life. A buck apiece per landing for tires that you know will come out of the well is cheap...
