Addendum on my post, which I kept short for clarity.

The safest place for avgas is in the tanks, so as you drain one tank to reset the zero on it's gauge, you transfer the fuel into the other wing right away! You obviously are working with a high explosive, with the hangar door open, or better outside in the shade with fire extinguishers handy. You do not use any old bucket, but a new 5+ gal. metal one, with a Facet pump bolted (grounded) to the rim and appropriate tubing to draw up the gas AND transfer the fuel to the waiting opposite wing. The pump is powered by a long cable hard wired and insulated at the pump, remotely powered 15+ feet away. You never accumulate a lot of gas in the bucket, but ship it to the other wing ASAP. You are there 100% of the time, not doing anything else.
