Chris,
Glad you asked the question. I went to the hanger and did some
measuring and reading of the original plans. Since I'm over 60 now, I am
not responsible for my memory anymore, so the incorrect measurement
information I gave previously is not my fault.
Now for the rest of the story. The original building plans
show:
Flap Measurements
Inboard flap chord length: 11 5/8"
Outboard Flap chord length: 9 1/4"
Flap Travel
-10 degrees flap reflex: 1 5/8"
I concur about the measurement differing slightly whether perpendicular to
the hinges or at the actual inboard edge angle.
My flap: 11 7/16" (perpendicular)
11
5/8" (inboard edge angle)
My flap travel coincides roughly with the above 1 5/8" measurement.
It was difficult to get an accurate measurement as my digital flap indicator
only reads whole numbers. So there is slight variance in actual flap
position whether the digital indicator is at the beginning or at the end
of a whole number (ie 10.1 to 10.9). It is also made a bit un-precise
since the flap motor coasts to a stop.
I imagine the 235 flaps are the same as the 320/360? The only
difference would be the 235 flaps are hinged from the top.

Gary,
What is the flap chord length (center line of hinge to TE) at the
root on a 235? It must be shorter than a 320/360 given the 0.75" TE
travel.
My trailing edge moves 1.48" to go from 0 to -7 degrees.
An added complication is that the inboard edge of the flap is not
perpendicular to the hinge. If you measure along the inboard edge,
you'll get a slightly longer measurement.
Honestly, I prefer a direct angular measurement. It
takes all the geometry issues out of the equation. I just checked the
iPhone (Theodolite App) against my digital level. The iPhone is a bit
harder to read but it followed the level exactly. The
'not free' version allows you to do screen captures.

Don't know if this is any help.
The reflex position on the 235 airframe (same wing as the 320/360
wing) is up from the faired in with the fuselage position, which is 0
degrees. -9 degrees is 0.75" (3/4") up from the fuselage. So you
could interpolate the distance to come up with the amount you are thinking of
changing to.
