Hi All, Another idea….. I screwed a fiberglass plate (from the panel cut out) on each
side of the 900 rack. Each plate was slotted to slide onto the horizontal firewall stiffener on the firewall. The only connections to
the upper panel are pitot/static and several electrical plugs. The "side plate" idea allows relatively easy removal of the upper panel. In my
IV, the only fasteners are two #10's on each lower corner. The panel rests atop the center console and is pinned to the center console.
Removing the two #10's and and lifting the panel enough to disengage the pins allows the panel to be removed as the "side plates" slide free
from the firewall stiffener. This also avoids any braces blocking access from below. Sorry I don't have a better pic. You can see the
"side plates" in the lower right of this pic. The wiring is a work in progress here so is obviously not buttoned up. I added the joggle per
Lancair practice at the time of construction. The joggle is stabilized by the top dust shield which is held in place with velcro. There is no
discernible movement in the rough air I have encountered so far.
