I'm not new to aircraft building as I built and fly an RV-6A, but I do have some first timer questions regarding the 4/4P which I regard as a completely different class of machine. Regarding pressurization: I imagine the pressurized cabin is quieter, and more comfortable in that wearing an O2 mask is not required. Other than that, what are the other benefits of pressurization that could offset the added weight, complexity, maintenance, and cost. And then, above what altitude do you feel that pressurization offers other physiological benefits, as opposed to wearing a simple cannola. Regarding the rudder size: I have yet to fly a 4/4P however I have heard it suggested that a "smaller than it should be" rudder makes for heavy handling qualities, makes spin recovery difficult, disallows a meaningful slip, and limits crosswind capability. Can someone currently flying a 4/4P comment on this. Regarding a right side door: I suppose my greatest pet-peeve of the 4/4P is the lack of a right side door. Its bad enough having you and your passenger stepping all over the seats in the RV. I surely wouldn't be happy with all those muddy feet clambering all over the cabin of my beautiful $1/4 million Lancair. A right side door would eliminate 90% of that and offer a safety benefit too (quick egress). Has anyone added a second door to a 4 or a 4P. When I asked this of the factory reps, their response was a somewhat rude "this is how it is; we're not changing it; deal with it" Regarding kit quality: Can someone assess the overall qualities of what is delivered from the factory. It seems like I've been reading a lot of "doesn't fit" problems. These are things I became accustomed too with my $15,000 RV and most were easily rectified. However with a $120,000 Lancair, I'd like to expect more, especially in an airframe which requires such higher tolerances. Other issues like an additional $400 for a less than ideally engineered door latch have raised a flag. Is this just a part of the deal for having a Lancair-4 class aircraft, or am I reading more into this than what really exists? Finally, for those already flying, do you find performance numbers as advertised, particularly climb, Vc and Vso?
