There are actually at least three methods of doing this:
1. The tire bead might easily come loose from the rim
2. You can use, as suggested, a bead-breaking tool
3. You can carefully wiggle, twist, encourage and otherwise push the bead off the rim, inventing new suitably descriptive words and phrases as you go.
The first method never works for me, the second is the best, and the third is the method I use :-).

the wheels are two halves bolted together but then you still need a bead breaker to get the tire off.

How to change tires – are the wheels built in halves that you can disassemble or is it like a car tire and you have to use one of those tire removal machines? I am not at the airplane now and won’t have access for a few days to look.
