Thanks for the suggestions.  I have the IPad brightness on full or are you s=
uggesting that I turn the auto adjust feature on, in addition?

The Garmin Pilot app does have a brightness control which auto sets to full .=
  I surmise that it is primarily for night use.

Any recommendations for a glare screen?
