It was a decision to push through these showers (you = could easily see the other side) or detour around these areas. I = decided in most cases to stay low (4500 feet from Florida) and get the = plane washed. I was VFR the entire trip because I can make my own = decisions on altitude and routing. I did have flight following most of = the way. In two cases, lighting did strike within 10 miles in heavier = rain areas. I suppose it could have been in my area too since I was in = precipitation. I don't think you have to be in a thunderstorm nor = exercising poor judgement in order to risk being struck.
