Is the sod rather firm? You comment regarding "sand > blasting" one's neighbors would lead me to believe that it is. The area that most Lancair drivers park is in the Northern part of the show plane area which is near the warbirds and also near the Lancair 'tent'. Some of the volunteers should know this when you land and direct you to this area. If not, tell them you want to go to the North end of the 'homebuilt' area. Since this is part of the 'high' ground, it usually drains quickly after a rain and is 'rather firm' also. Not to imply that you can see hills & valleys but from experience we know this to be the case. On your airport diagram, this is near the intersection of 18-36 and 9-27 on the Southwest 'corner'. You can stay on the West taxiway all the way to this area before turning off onto the grass if you land on the North-South runway (which you should ask for if traffic permits). My comment about 'sand blasting' applies more to Sun-n-fun since they do have sand and (have in the past) also permitted one to taxi into the parking position. I would not take my Lancair to Lakeland for this reason. One year I flew with a Glasair builder and his airplane was blasted unmercifully. Also when we flew the Mustang II his canopy received the 'treatment' so we go to Bartow and take the limo to the airshow. Or stay in Kissimee and rent a car. Hope this helps... see ya at Oskosh!
