Brian, how does the center weight make things
better? I would think it would put more torque on the elevator since
it's cantilevered inside.

Balance
Bill, Bob and others, I've installed the Bob Weight from
Lancair developed originally for the turbine Sentry. I've advised all
IVP, IVPT and ES owners to install this kit using as much weight
internal to the fuselage as possible. There has been a Lancair service
bulletin in the past for loose elevator hinges. The mass balance weight
in the elevators is a major factor especially on piston powered planes.
If you ever taxi behind one of these aircraft and watch the H-stab shake
you would probably agree. The H-stab begins to oscillate and is
subjected to this flywheel effect due to the large weight in the
elevators and rudder. I also recommend the V-stab fairing from the
Sentry on all of these planes as it adds additional stiffness to the aft
fuselage. I've installed Three. From what I understand, there is also an
all carbon rudder available from Matt Collier
