Airplane on the ground, empty . Add nitrogen to strut until it is fully extended . Remove the filler hose . Using a pin punch and a small hammer, make very light taps on the Schrader valve stem until it drops to about 1/2" below fully extended. . There is some hysteresis, so between taps pull down on the prop (or lift the tail) to see the actual position.
