A couple of weeks ago there where a couple of request for
pictures  of the way I installed the step on my L IV.
I had no luck finding the pictures. I will describe the way I
did the installation. The step is the one purchased from
Lancair. Replace the bolt that serves as the pivot point for
the step arm with countersunk bolt so the plate can be
flush mounted to the gear box. Use a board as a mockup
(and later as a template) to attach the step mechanism to.
I mounted my step so with it extended it is 5deg. back
from vertical in the locked down position. I moved the step
back about 10". I also used an E series Linear Actuator
from AEI to raise and lower the step. So far the step worked
every time and is behind the acre of the gear leg. I hope this
is helpful if there are any questions you can call me at
909 931 2727 during the business day in CA or e-mail
