Weights listed in various areas of the publications do not surprise me. The weight listed on the Web pages were considered to be the basic engine/dry. Marshall used weight from the Operators and Maintenance manual. Prior to giving the weight on this page, it lists all acessories and components that are on the engine for this weight. Reading through the list it includes all components to make the engine run. Including starter, Turbos, spark plugs, fuel injection, primer, baffling, exhaust system, alternator, wiring, clamps, fittings, oil filter etc etc.. This engine (TSIO 550) weighs 571 pounds plus/minus 2.5 percent. Sooo my statement which included the published weight of this engine is 442 pounds is for an engine without accessories. Using the Lycoming published weight of 527 pounds, I can only assume that it is a basic/dry weight if Brents engine was 623 pounds. So, if my math is correct, the Continental is 52 pounds lighter. Now let me to you about the drive I had off the 14th hole, and then the bass I caught last week.
