An economist's perspective on engines...

Which certified, pre-Columbia 300, 170 kt+ piston single is the "Mercedes
of the air?" Aviation Consumer's Used Aircrft Guide says its the Beech
Bonanza, and while I'm sure some would disagree, I suspect that none of us
views this as a crazy statement.  Which engine does the Beech Bonanza use?
The Continenal IO 470/520/550 series.  Raytheon employs some smart people.
Shouldn't this be given a lot of weight?
