I have seen a few posts to the list about the seat belt attach points. I
will start by stating that I am neither an expert, nor a doctor, not an
engineer. I am merely a race car driver who has read a decent amount about
the placement of shoulder harnesses. As one poster mentioned - spinal
compression is the key.
Most racing organizations require that "the angle of the shoulder harness
going back from the driver's shoulders cannot be above nor exceed 40 degrees
below the horizontal plane of the shoulders" (to quote one race rule book).
Now I am not exactly clear what this says, but the implication is not to
take the harness too high either - and that I don't understand.
Apparently lots of engineering has gone into this - due to a few seriously
injured individuals. I certainly don't want to have a minor accident that
stops the plane quickly from about 30 mph (i.e. a crash into a solid object)
and save my face, only to ruin my spine. It's a very serious issue, and I
have had my concerns about the current placement. Looking for insight..
