Yes, I've done all the demos at Oshkosh and most other fly-ins. When it comes to my hearing tests I'm still showing excellent reception at 53. I got them at an excellent price, $125 from a salvage dealer back in the late 70's. They were military helicopter sets so they required a plug converter and long cords, available from DC. As for those of you that still have DC's around, consider updating them at a fraction of the cost of new pair. First, put on the new gel cels. The vinyl headband can be covered with a snap-on cloth cover after-market product. I replaced the mike with a dynamic unit and for $2.00 purchased a black foam cover. Yes, the gel cels will shrivel your ears with condensation, but cure that with a pair of Ear-Sox (cloth covers in various patterns) that are elasticized to go over the gel cels, also washable. I am in EAA Chapter 7 at Long Beach, CA and found all this in the local Pilot Supply Shoppe. Will try to get manufacturers and stock numbers for a future post. As for Headsets, Inc., I have nothing but praise for them also. I bought the conversion but ended up giving it to a fellow pilot (same mdl DC's). He managed to do the conversion in a reasonable time and voila, nada. A call to Headsets and little could they explain the problem or solution. UPS to Texas and a test of the circuitry discovered that they did not have the wiring correct for model in question (remember, military - surplus). Headsets, Inc. did the rewire at no additional charge and returned the unit ready to go. Don't you just love companies that give service in this day and age. When I get current again, I know just the steps to take to keep my ears in good shape for the next twenty years.
