We are talking about the "wire grip" and not the "cable end 'b' nut" which appear on the same page in ACS (151). I would only use a threaded end (with a rod end on that) for throttle, mixture and prop. Even if some have been able to get them aligned and tightened properly so they have had no failure to date, it is just not something I would feel real confident about. There is definitely a history of failure with wire grip attachments. I do in fact have a cable end "b" nut on my cabin heat and have had no failures with it. My wire grip failure was not at an exterior bend into the grip but inside the grip...a failure to make sufficient contact on the wire or a break of the wire.
