Lots of comments on this subject. I may as well throw in my 2 cents
worth.

I'd like to pass on a bit of useful info gleaned from the Flightcom booth
a year or two ago at Oshkosh.
My friend (and pilot who flew his Mustang II to Oshkosh with me as
co-pilot for many years) had the intention of purchasing a ANR unit for
the Mustang.  After explaining the application to the kind folks from
Flightcom, they explained that we really did NOT want a ANR headset for
such a noisy airplane.  In fact we did NOT want the most expensive and
most sensitive mic either.  We purchased a modest priced middle of the
line pair and on the flight home could not have been happier.  I had
previously purchased a ANR 3100 Telex at Sun-n-fun and noticed that we
could not squelch out the background noise and again Flightcom came to
the rescue.  A small leather 'glove' with a tiny hole in each side placed
over the mic calmed it where we could squelch properly.  Even our local
controllers thought we sounded much clearer when we got back home. Flighcom reminded us that we were not creating a music quality CD and did
not need a mic that would reproduce every frequency in the spectrum but
we only needed one that faithfully reproduced the human voice freqs
clearly.  I still use the ANR Telex and think lowering the low freq
pounding my eardrums is a GOOD thing since I've lost a lot of good
hearing ability over the years and want to protect what is left.  But I
never leave home without the tiny glove properly placed over the mic.  Earl
