I may as well throw in my 2 cents worth. I've been flying a Starduster Too -- very windy and very noisy. I had a difficult time understanding what I heard over the radio, so there was no way I would fly into or through the local Class B area. In an attempt to improve reception, I bought a David Clark ANR headset. It worked the same as my non-ANR unit. After a number of frustrating flights I spoke to the DC people, who told me it should work better than it had been and told me to send it in for repair. They actually replaced it, but the new one works no better. Even in a closed airplane - a 152 or 172 - it doesn't make much difference if turned on or off. The noise is different, but just as loud. In defense of DC I must say that when it is tried in my kitchen it completely cancels the sound of the refrigerator. Some time ago I had the good fortune to ride in Rick Argente's 360 and was absolutely amazed by the silence heard through his LightSpeed units. I couldn't believe an ANR could R so much N. You can bet that when my Lancair is ready to fly it will do so with LightSpeeds installed.
