 It's possible that your hinge mounting structure is
 yielding to the force indirectly applied by the gas struts when closing
 the canopy. That is a possibility you'd have to look at and determine
 yourself.  
As an addendum to my previous post (above), it should be noted that
no canopy movement or distortion during closing is not the only requirement.
I once read a statement by Lance that 200 lbs of upward force is exerted on
the canopy at cruise speeds. Your forward bracket installation and rear
latches must resist that amount of force at a MINIMUM !
