I installed my forward hinged canopy in accordance with the instructions supplied and it closes with NO distortion whatsoever, so the system does work. However, my canopy brackets are mounted on a header tank, which greatly stiffens the quarter deck and is an extremely rigid mounting base itself. It's possible that your hinge mounting structure is yielding to the force indirectly applied by the gas struts when closing the canopy. That is a possibility you'd have to look at and determine yourself. I read Doug Mitchell's reply. He noted that 16 plies of carbon fiber stiffener are required under the front of the canopy. After seven years, I'd forgotten the number of plies. These are applied over a foam spacer for added ridigity. I laid the carbon fiber on four plies at a time, allowing just enough time for the previous layup to partially cure. Since the phenolic hinge mounts install over the carbon fiber stiffeners, you must have already installed the carbon fiber. If rework of the carbon plies is necessary, it would, of course, required cutting off the phenolic mounts.
