Rob,
Have you considered doubling the 26AWG wire over,
criming the doubled wire in a standard D-sub pin/socket (M39029/64-369 or
M39029/63-368), and then inserting the pin using a tool (M81969/1-02) so as
not to stress the wire? These are readily available from places like
Aerocraft Parts or SteinAir.
