Ed has sold his nose gear. I'm the only one I know that is using the old style nose gear. It is serviceable, and can be used successfully. BUT- If you touch the original nose gear down before the mains you will porpoise and even worse shimmy violently and that will probably break the nose gear and motor mount. One builder lost his MT prop that way. Getting the attitude just right isn't always easy. The plane is set at 2.5° +, to get more prop clearance, when at rest. With the weight off the nose gear the + attitude must be more pos. and the 235 is in a pretty flat angle, when coming down, until you get ground effect. Also, to keep prop clearance, you have to constantly add spacers under the rubber shock mounts or replace them. I have not changed because I don't want to do the retrofit work and the new gear costs an autopilot or 1/5 an MT prop which I would rather have.
